I upgraded to 6 from 5.4 on a new simple website. Super basic, built just so the owner can update content on the static pages simply.
However, not there is this constant warning pop up that doesn’t really make sense!
“Warning system/ee/EllisLab directory is present on your server. Please make sure you have replaced your index.php and admin.php as per updating instructions and remove this directory.”
I used one click, so I am assuming that would have replaced those 2 php files, and it works as it should. But why would it tell me to delete the system/ee/EllisLab directory? I did and it broke the site. No big deal to replace it.. but what am I missing?
Update
For whatever reason, it didn’t update the index and admin files, so I had to manually replace those and it was fine. Maybe a bug ?
The updating instructions here https://docs.expressionengine.com/latest/installation/updating.html does have a callout box stating..
“If updating from a version prior to ExpressionEngine 6, you may need to rename or remove system/ee/EllisLab directory manually. You will also need to manually copy the latest index.php and admin.php files to your site’s root folder.”
I deleted the EllisLab directory as instructed and had no issues though? ..
