The critically acclaimed Bad Behavior 2 was recently released from beta, and I spent an hour writing it up into an ExpressionEngine extension this afternoon. Now, while it seems to work sans errors and does put information in the database, it would probably be a good idea for some testing. Who wants some?
I just installed this on my personal site following the instructions and no such problems. It sounds like Step 1 did not go correctly and that the extension is unable to find the Bad Behavior 2 files in the extensions directory. There is a ‘bad-behavior’ folder inside the unzipped ‘Bad-Behavior’ folder. Make sure you upload the first one, not the second.
The Blacklist is kind of like a bouncer who has a list of those who are not allowed into a club. If you are on the list, you are not getting in. It can also block you right at the door so you do not even hit the site with the .htaccess writing.
Bad Behavior seems to be more of a detective who checks many things about you and attempts to determine if you are bad news. If so, you’ve hit the site but cannot see past the front door and told you are not welcome.
The Blacklist is more likely to catch human spammers, which Bad Behavior is not so likely to detect. Bad Behavior is more likely to catch new spamming bots hitting your site for the first time.
OK it’s been awhile since I’ve fiddled around with core settings so I need a reminder: Is there a preference setting I can just toggle someplace or do I have to go into the Modules section and uninstall the blacklist module itself? Tried searching the docs and didn’t come up with much.
