I haven’t tried it… but wouldn’t the Tell a Friend template work? By creating a comment/path link or something with the gallery id into the Tell a Friend template specifically set up work as an ecard solution? I have a regular weblog set up to send ecards this way… but haven’t tested it with the gallery…..
So after looking around for a bit, it seems that EE can almost do this. The tell-a-friend feature is good, the only real feature it’s lacking is the ability to store a message, so that when someone clicks on the link in the email they receive, it will show the media along with a custom message for that person.
I’m wondering if there’s some workaround to get this to happen in EE. I imagine using a SAEF to create a “blog post” of some kind. They pick from a selection of images, perhaps using a check box. They type in the recipient’s email address. And then they type in a message. What is created is sort of an “invisible” blog post, which is contained in a URL sent to the recipient’s email address. When that person clicks the link, they’re basically viewing that blog post, with the media selected (a video, image, or perhaps music).
There might be other nice features to add to this, such as “knowing” when someone clicks on that link and views that post. Maybe the post is deleted after a certain time, to keep the database clean. But it seems like one could do this with EE…
Am I on the right track? Does this sound do-able? Can anyone point out any obvious pitfalls to the method I am proposing? If not, that would be great, because I’m extremely reluctant to install a separate piece of software on my client’s server to handle this feature. I find it much more difficult to trust an untested, public domain PHP script off the Internet, whereas EE seems quite trustworthy to me.
