I’ve been following this thread since the beginning, and I’m a little dismayed that rikoos hasn’t offered any follow-up. This sounded like a promising project.
Off-Topic:
That being said, I have my own project in the works that some of you may find interesting. It is a plugin called RepEEt. The plugin, in conjunction with custom weblog fields, allows you to:
This is done using the weblog module’s publish page and custom weblog fields. Since RepEEt is just a plugin, you know there’s no database manipulation going on. Repeating events – or perhaps it’s more accurate to say multi-occurrence entries – are merely “simulated”. Each entry is only entered into the database once, just as any other weblog entry.
The plugin can display data in three ways:
I’ve been holding off from talking about the plugin because of a couple very important points. First, I’m no pro programmer. I need to run the code by people who actually know what they are doing. Second, the plugin reuses and modifies some EE code (specifically from functions related to exp:weblog:calendar). Thus, the plugin needs to be run by Rick, Paul, & Co.
So why am I telling you about this now, when RepEEt could end up being vaporware, at least from your perspective? A couple reasons. The first is that I don’t think it is vaporware. The plugin works right now. I’m running it on two of my websites. I want to rewrite some of the code and play with a few ideas running through my head, but it basically works. Second, there is a lot of demand out there for event calendar solutions. RepEEt is not an event calendar, per se, but it helps EE to act like one. I figure that by telling you folks about the plugin, if there’s any demand for this sort of a solution, you’ll tell me about it. And that, in turn, will force me to follow through on the project.
One more important note: this post is basically off-topic. At some point I will start a separate thread to talk more about RepEEt. In the mean time you are welcome to contact me privately, but I probably won’t address RepEEt-related (and therefore OT) questions here. I know there’s no reason to think this thread will ever get back on topic, but still, I don’t want to steal rikoos’s thread in the event that he does decide to show up again.
Has Mr. Wilson (or Rick) made any progress on their plug-ins? I’m intrigued by both offerings and hope one or the other (or both) turn into a solid sometime soon.
Yes.
A couple folks are testing the plugin for me right now. I need to run the plugin by the EE crew before I go any further because one of its features requires reusing modified EE code. If they give me approval to use their code, I will open a separate thread for further discussion about the plugin.
If you’re really bored right now, you can have a look at the documentation (draft). There are some examples near the bottom. The code used to generate each example page can be found at the bottom of each page.
Anyone remeber that movie “The Money Pit”? It’s amazing how long you can stretch two weeks.
All kidding aside, I would love to see this completed. Perhaps our friend just needs a little cheering on?
You can do it! Don’t give up, we (at least I do) believe in you!!
Good luck, Sean
