cant access core classes

Am I accessing this wrong? i can access test fine, but $TYPE/parse_type() is not defined in my modules scope.
function test(){
global $TYPE;
return $TYPE->parse_type('{exp:weblog:entries weblog="bayshore"}{zone1_en}{/exp:weblog:entries}');
}

sorry just noticed I have to define it, thought it was defined in the bootstrap.
