getting blank pages on publish and edit

I moved an EE install to a new server, checked all paths and imported the DB. Everything is working fine except that I get blank pages on publish and edit.

It seems to be a problem with some extensions because if I disable them the publish and edit tabs work fine again.

Here’s a list of extensions I’m running: LG Add Sitename (v.1.2.0) LG Addon Updater (v.1.0.2)
SL Developer Info (v.1.3.3) Gypsy (v.1.0.6)
MD Markitup (v.1.6.1)
FieldFrame (v.1.1.2) jQuery for Control Panel (v.1.1) Fresh Variables (v.1.0.1) SL Field Formatting (v.1.0.2)
REEOrder (v.1.0)

Especially jQuery for Control panel and MD markitup seem to be causing the problem. All settings are correct and I have double checked all paths.

Any suggestions before I wipe the slate and start with a fresh install? If any admin wants to log in then please PM me for a login/pass. Thanks in advance.

Do you have access to server error logs? If so, anything in there that can give us a clue?

No access to server logs sorry.

I did some additional debugging and I have it down to the fieldframe extension, as soon as I enable that one or create a custom weblog field using a FF type I get a blank publish page.

I have already reinstalled FF and checked the settings, everything appears as it should be… any ideas?

Man this is weird, I narrowed it down to the FF Matrix fieldtype, if I disable only that everything works fine, enable it and I get blank publish and edit pages. Any thoughts?

Further snooping indicates this could be a PHP memory limit problem: http://tinyurl.com/pppqsn

Gonna talk to the server guys and get back here later.

Upping memory solved it but now there’s another problem. I posted it over at GetSatisfaction http://tinyurl.com/qp2pvb

Will post back here if and when I hear something from Brandon. Thanks!

OK, so you’ve ruled out MD Markitup? I’ve definitely used it alongside almost all of the extensions you mention in your list. Is there a weird file permission issue going on? I hope Brandon can help you sort this out over at GS.

e-man,

As your issue has has now been narrowed down to an extension, I am going to move this to the appropriate forum for you.

Markitup is working fine and given the fact Brandon is a busy man I’m pretty confident this will be fixed in a future update. For now, I’ve disabled the offending field types.

I’m having the same problem with FF Matrix; subscribing to thread.

This problem was a combination of a low memory limt for php and an obscure javascript bug which Brandon fixed himself. My advice would be to head over to http://getsatisfaction.com/brandonkelly and post for support there, this thread isn’t going to help you much!

If I only have FTP access to the site, can I alter the memory limits for php? I’m a php newbie, but I’m hoping changing a setting isn’t rocket science. I ask because I’m having a similar issue with enabling an extention and the page goes blank.

Thanks!

You could try upping via an .htaccess file. Create a text file in your home directory and save it as .htaccess (note the . ) To this file simply add:

php_value memory_limit 16M

(increase to 32, 64 etc… and see what happens)

Thanks! I’ll try that.

The memory limit didn’t solve my issue. Turns out it was a whitespace character after the final ?> in my extension file.

Posting back in case this helps anyone.
