What are the correct steps to migrate to a new server?

The steps in the docs are not correct or updated. For example, they state to put the proper settings in “/system/expressionengine/config/database.php” but that file (and path) doesn’t exist.

It also says to synchronize the templates (as I have them as files) but there’s no setting for this in EE3.

Also, do I do a find-replace on all the URLs in teh database backup SQL file?

What about all the places in the CP where paths need updating?

What are the full steps?

Thanks for finding that, dmDev08, I’ve fixed the docs for that page.

Thanks! Question: what if I’m not using a theme? Do I still need to set the theme in config?

And just to double check, I don’t need to worry about templates being files in EE3, correct? (In EE2, it required synchronizing)

Yes, the control panel requires theme files for CSS, JS, and font assets.

Templates saved as files would be in your system/user/templates/ folder, so they will come over with the rest of your system folder. In ExpressionEngine 3, templates are synced to the database automatically when you visit your template manager (or if you access the front end for an updated template).
