Deleting Template Variables and their files with Model

When using
$variables = ee('Model')->get('GlobalVariable', $id)->delete();…should I expect that the GlobalVariable files are deleted as well? Because right now, they are not (EE3.1.2).

Yes; working for me. Does deleting them in the template manager delete the file as it should? Are permissions correct on the directory and file?
