Use content from Channel in webpage.

Very green to EE. Converting a 1.7 site to a 3.3 site. I am having issues with a template (about) that embeds a navigation panel, contents below:

<ul id=”sub-nav”> <li>Mission, Vision & Values</li>
<li>Management Team</li> <li>Board of Directors</li> <li>History</li> <li>Awards</li> <li>Services & Capabilities</li> </ul>

All of the above content is stored in “about” entries. When the URL above is “clicked” from the about page the content shows, at least in 1.7 it does, cannot get it to work in 3.3

So, I am trying to understand the mechanics behind the code.
