I do not find any documentation on this topic.

Under Members > CP Settings there are options for

“Member group default” How is defined which member group sees what? Can this be edited somwhere?

Custom URI — e.g. members/groups How do I use this feature?

If you’re using EE 3.x, you can set a default CP page for both the member group, as well as individual member.

If you edit the Member Group settings, where it says Access Control Panel, if you switch to Yes, there’ll be a list of options for the Default CP Homepage for the Member Group. That’ll apply to all members in that group unless you edit a member’s profile and pick another option.

As far as Custom URI, you could send them to an Addons page, for example: addons/settings/addon_name or anywhere else in the CP. Just copy the bit of the URL after /cp/
