EllisLab tried a single button/link entry delete system and it didn’t work out for most folks because they kept accidentally deleting things.
So now we check the check box in the Entry Manager table, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and change the little menu that pops up from – with selected – to remove, click the submit button, and finally confirm the deletion.
That little menu use to have some other “power features” for bulk editing that I’m hoping get added back to EE 3.0 soon.
Hope that helps.
Really? We have to make the software more complicated, slower more awkward to use, to prevent people from accidentally making mistakes? I’m not sure I agree that’s the best policy when trying to improve things.
As a compromise, I’d suggest the following:
1) Have a Delete button from with the Edit Entry screen, then you can actually see what you’re deleting.
2) Have a Trash system, so that Entries can be retrieved if accidentally deleted.
What’s nice about the current system is that it allows us to remove several entries at once, and that’s really nice for some of our client’s publishing needs.
In EE 2 it also allowed bulk category and status management and some other nice things that I’ll bet they plan to add back into EE 3 at some point, so they probably won’t remove the current system.
When the lab tried the one-click delete, the feedback was loud and clear from the community that it was too easy. I do remember having to restore a database a couple of times due to accidental deletions of a single entry. The current system has pretty much prevented my team from having to do that (for this reason) anymore.
