While clients love the responsive control panel, most are still on a desktop and prefer to work that way for most tasks… the beauty of EE 2 was we could customise the layout of the entry form to be more compact and better organised.

ie. have 3 file uploads? In EE 2 we could create 3 columns and put them all on a single grouped row. Now those same 3 file uploads are forced to be on separate rows, taking up more space and visually they lose the ‘grouped’ layout of before.

Likewise for shorter fields and single text inputs - we could group 2 on a row before, but now they just take up more space vertically.

EE 2 made for a very customised and tailored client experience for the types of content we were creating.

Now it just feels more like a large generic WordPress type entry form and has lost the ‘personality’ and tailored feel of before.

Would love at least the option of 2 columns to return…

I agree. I always assumed they’d get to after the initial ee 3 release, however, that does not seem to be the case. Now on 3.4 and we’re still just getting back features we had in 2.x.
