A way to find the member who last edited a channel entry

There doesn’t seem to be any way in EE 3.x to find the last author who edited an entry, unless everyone who edits an entry always makes sure to edit the Author dropdown under the Options tab.
Others have posted that this can be found in the exp_entry_versioning table but it can’t. The exp_entry_versioning.author_id is set by that same Author dropdown under the Options tab when editing an entry.
That dropdown is alway set to the original author or, if it gets manually changed when editing, to the ID of the last author to which it was set.
Shouldn’t that dropdown get set automatically to the ID of the member who is logged in and is editing the entry? This seems like a bug to me.
I wouldn’t say it’s a bug as an author and an editor are 2 different things. But I do agree it would be nice to have access to easily see who last edited an entry and it wouldn’t be hard to implement.
