Fatal error when viewing (editing) templates after migration

I’ve just migrated an EE 2 site to a new server.
The frontend site is working fine, but I can’t view or edit any templates in the admin area. Clicking a template name in the Template manager shows a page with the following error:
A PHP Error was encountered Severity: Notice Message: Undefined property: Design::$template Filename: cp/design.php Line Number: 2160
Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_addons() on a non-object in /xxx/xxx/public_html/system/expressionengine/controllers/cp/design.php on line 2160
I’ve tried re-uploading design.php, and have searched the forums for a solution, with no success.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Pete, I don’t have an answer for you, but I know it will help those who might if you let us know if there are any changes in the stack between the two servers. Same server OS? Same dystro of OS? Same version of apache or IIS? Same version of PHP (this is typically the biggest gotcha)? Other variations?
