Displaying entries per category

Hey all, looking for a suitable solution for displaying entries on a per category basis. I often get stumped on this and need to find a neat solution that suits.

I have a series of entries, each entry is assigned to one category. What I’d like to do is list out these categories and, beneath each category, list out the entries with the title and one of their custom fields.

Any help would be appreciated. Im fairly sure I tackled this with use of an embed in the past but cant find the reference.
