Adding MSM to existing EE site

How Do I?

Hi, I’ve created a site in EE. I now need to create another site for the same client that will be hosted on a sub-domain of the main url.

I’m thinking of using MSM to manage the additional site. Having never used MSM before I’m unsure how it works.

Can I just install MSM on the main EE site and add the new site, or does the exiting site need to be added to the MSM?

Regards

Wayne.

Hi,

If you are using ExpressionEngine 3, all you need to do is log into https://expressionengine.com/store/purchases for the account that owns the license in question and click the add sites button on the license you want to add the site to, and then go through the check out process. Then you’ll need to update your site’s license key.

Thanks James,

I’ve managed to setup as per the documentation.

I’m just a bit unsure on how to structure the additional site.

In the additional sites URL and Path Settings should the Control panel directory, Themes directory and Themes path be set to the main or sub-domain?

When creating upload directories should these be on the main or sub-domain? ot doesn’t it matter.

Thanks

Wayne.

Hi,

Each site will have it’s own settings, switch to the site you want to edit, and make the changes to match that site.
