I am using ExpressionEngine 2.7.3 and I have file upload preferences set to a location on my web server and I have entered the absolute path they gave me. I have updated the mimes file to include docx but I still can’t upload docx through the EE file upload utility. I have tried doc and txt no problem, but cannot get docx to work. Any ideas on if this is EE or my host?

Likely an XSS filtering issue. If you trust those with access to upload files, you can turn it off and see if that works:

Go to: Admin / Security and Privacy / Security and Sessions

Then change “Apply XSS Filtering to uploaded files?” to “No”.

Sorry I forgot to update this post. It ended up being Godaddy who has strict settings on the new host for mod_security and was blocking docx….I ended up using jquery validator to only validate doc, pdf and txt files through the form. Shame they are blocking docx but what can you do when you are on a shared environment.
