EE3 CodeIgniter Hooks

We are currently in the process of migrating from EE2 to EE3. We are using codeigniter’s display override hook functionality currently. From what we can tell EE3 has removed this feature and EE3 is no longer based on codeigniter.

Does EE3 have a similar mechanism to capture the display output before it’s rendered to the screen without having to modify core files?
