What outgoing domain should I open for EE to ping home?

I’m working with my sysadmin in allowing outgoing traffic to various locations. During the pinging process, what domain should I open so EE can phone home? (I’m guessing to check for the latest version, among other things.)
I’m thinking *.ellislab.com or *.expressionengine.com?

Both should allow all you need natively. Keep in mind that third party addons may have their own notification or validation schemes that require outgoing traffic as well.
