How Do I?

hi all, i’ve just discovered expression engine, usually i use other cms (opensource) just because being free so they are easier and quicker to download install and try, but as my business is growing i would like to try something more “professional” so i’m thinking about give a try to ee as soon as i can.

Right now i need to realize a website with some unusual features so i’m here to understand if this is the right occasion to use ee.

I read a lot of forum posts and some documentation, but i still did not understand very well if it can be the right CMS choice for a project i’m starting, so i’m here to ask before buy-install-and work on it.

What i need to do is to sell guided tours. The tricky part is that a user of the site must be able to book his tour throug an availability calendar and choose to buy for more people in one time using different fares for different people (example: 3 adults and 2 kids).

Furthermore the availability of selling items must refer not only on calendar days, because i can have the same tour more than just once per day.

Here you can find an example of the booking system + shopping cart + payment i need to emulate: https://dotravel.com/

I hope to have some clear words from you and not just a “ee can do anythign just buy it”, because i will buy ee anyway, but maybe not for this very project.

Sure, you could totally recreate dotravel.

Ive used https://www.exp-resso.com/ before, and you would be able to handle all the payments.

The tours would be just regular channel entries

You could limit how may tours are available per day, etc. Once all tours are booked for the day, disable any further booking, etc. Basically treat it like a digital asset. Coupons, discounts, etc.

As for the Calendar, maybe look into https://solspace.com/expressionengine/calendar/. Ive not used it yet, but I’m willing to bet you can pull off what you want to with it. Maybe use the store entries to populate the calendar dates.

It’ll just take some creative thinking, to hook them together.
