EE5: Trying to upload file produces a blank white page (500 error?)

Have just setup a fresh install of EE5 on my hosting that I’ve used for many EE sites over the years (last version used was EE3).

Everything is fine except when I try to upload images/files. Either from the file manager page, or via the file field modal, in every case once I click the upload button I just get a blank white page and no uploaded file.

The ee_wizard is all green, so no issues with missing image libraries, and php_info is saying my post_size is at 64mb, so again all good.

Does anyone know of any gotchas that could be causing this?? :S

Can you check the PHP error logs? Might be something there. And double check errors are set to show to superadmin.

Also, I’ll often just do a test with one of the default avatars to help rule out anything about the image.

Thanks for getting back to me. I enabled debugging in the CP, but nothing helpful there. Tried one of the supplied avatar images, again just blank screen. It was at this point i discovered that files were being uploaded, as the upload folder was littered with test upload files, yet nothing was being registered in EE.

I then tried the PHP logs as you suggested (following this; https://www.ionos.com/help/index.php?id=2889&utm_source=old_hc)…

As soon as i dropped the php.ini in the webroot for the site, everything started working. I tried deleteing the php.ini and it stops working.

Very weird. Must be something funky in my hosting setup :(

> Very weird.

Agreed. Wonder if it’s related to display_errors = Off;? I’d still check that php error log just to see if something weird is going on. It feels weird.

But otherwise- glad it’s seems to be working!
