Enable custom add-on to hide entries from entry manager

So I am working on a custom addon that creates entries with a special status. I don’t want these entries to display in the entry manager, but I can’t seem to figure out how to setup the addon to modify the entry manager filters.

I was able to hide the entries by adding a filter to the setupEntries() function in Services/EntryListing/EntryListing.php, but I would like to be able to accomplish the same goal from the addon itself.

Any ideas on how I could do this?
