Is it safe to uninstall the native RTE fieldtype?

The subject line says it all really; I’m going to use Expresso for my RTE on this project and in the interest of keeping the system as lean as possible, I was thinking about uninstalling the EE-native RTE field type under ‘Add-ons’. The option is there, so I assume that it’s safe, but does anybody know anything to the contrary? Does EE expect it to be there? Might not having it destabilise the installation?

You should be fine as long as you don’t have any rte fields.
That said, it’s always wise to make a quick database backup when in doubt. Or not in doubt.
