Solspace FreeForm Next "The request response is empty" error when trying to save form

Has anyone experienced this? In Solspace Freeform Pro, when trying to save changes to a form in the EE CP, I get a “The request response is empty” error.
There is not much online about this other than maybe that PHP iconv is not enabled on the server (but I checked and it is).
Not sure where else to look in terms of config as this error is so generic and not having any other issues.

Hrm- I found another referrence suggesting the post may get lost due to a rewrite. Are you using htaccess to force www or trailing slash or anything? Try just renaming it .htaccess-bk and then do a quick test. Also, check your headers looking at the response, you may get a hint that way.
