I don’t know of any Free ones. I’ll admit to being curious about eeBootstrap for the forum, but I believe it’s commercial.
The native developer theme is a good start if you want to roll your own, but eeBootstrap looks interesting.
I’d also imagine it would be very easy to tweak a v2 theme to work with v5, so if you like one of those, I wouldn’t hesitate to try it.
I was going try out eeBootstrap but on devot:ee it says its v2 EE Version Support ExpressionEngine 2. This is not very reassuring.
But speaking of themes where can one find General themes for EE— paid or free. Years ago there were a few sources but for the past week i have not found any sources.
eeBootstrap has a site as well, and it looks like it states v3 compatibility there: https://www.eebootstrap.com/. There would be super minor changes in a forum theme, even from v2-5, so if you like it, I wouldn’t make that a deal breaker.
I don’t know of any frontend themes. I don’t think they ever really took off because it’s pretty easy to put about any html into EE. I use MIT licensed Bootstrap themes all the time and they generally take less than a day to get into layouts.
A secondary problem might be that eebootstrap’s theme, if they’re using it on their own forum, seems to be based on Bootstrap v3 and an old version at that. Bear in mind v4 has been out since January 2018 and v5 is upcoming.
Are we any closer to the forum module used on expressionengine.com being public release Robin?
I don’t have a time frame for you on that.
I will say I’ve upgraded EE sites built on bootstrap themes when bootstrap updated and it was super easy. Well, if you built your site out DRY it is. But I haven’t done it with the forums, and I agree, you’d want to keep to a current version of bootstrap.
What you might do is just some basic color tweaks on a default theme and let that hold them for a while until other options are available. It just depends on the site needs.
