I’m wondering if there would be any interest from EE module devs in writing a PDF indexer which would ‘plug-in’ to the existing search module to provide inline search results from static PDF hosted on a website.
I’ve been looking for a standalone solution which I could integrate with EE but have had no luck. The nearest I’ve got it discovering a similar module for Joomla. (http://joomla.natemaxfield.com/content/view/1/3/)
Any takers? I’d be willing to pay a reasonable amount for a module like this…
I know this is dredging up an old thread - but I’m in a position where I need to have the search engine hit PDFs. Does anyone know a good way to do this? I can’t see integrating a whole new search engine when EE already has one built in, but I assume there’s no way currently possible with the way the EE engine works?
The Search module currently only searches content in your database, not files on the server. So to add PDF searching, you’d need to pretty much rewrite the search module to both index static file content on your site, and to search that index and display its content along with search results from the database.
