notifications in ee are just possible on new weblog entries and follow-up comments. the attached module/extension sends an email to the comment author, if the comment status changes from “closed” to “open”. the email will be sent just the first time.
» beta version, tested with ee 1.6.3

Hiya,
Just downloading this now as it sounds like a really good addition so thanks for that. Just had one question though as I was wondering if your extension should be named ext.notify_comment_author.php instead of ext.notifycommentauthor.php. Not sure if it makes a difference as to whether this will work or not but I was under the impression that it was a better naming convention to do it in this way?
Anyway, thanks for the submission of this. I’m off to play with it right now!!
Best wishes,
Mark
Hi Mario,
No problem. Thanks for doing that. Will download now. Actually would it be possible if you could outline exactly how to use this as I did install it before but wasn’t exactly too sure what to do with it. Perhaps just a quick outline of the process would do?
Thanks again.
Best wishes,
Mark
Actually I think after reading what you have posted more carefully (I have a habit of rushing reading things at times 😉 ) I think I understand what this is meant to do.
Am I right in thinking that if I go to say my EDIT panel and then click on the View button for comments on one of my entries and then close one of the comments then the person that wrote the comment will be notified?
If so I just tried doing this but when I choose a comment to close and choose close from the drop-down menu and then submit it the comment doesn’t close. Is it meant to? Also I never received an e-mail notification.
I could be wrong on what this module is meant to achieve and if so would be really grateful of any help understanding what it is for.
Thanks again.
Best wishes,
Mark
alright, here the detailed explanation of the module/extension:
installation: - copy the files in the attachement to your ee installation (language file, module and extension) - activate the module and the extension - set up your preferences via settings button in the comment view - set up your auto-generated webmaster email and name in the ee email configuration
how to use it: - whenever a status of a comment is changed from “closed” to “open” everywhere in the ee backend, the author of the comment will receive a notification (but just the first time). - you can change the status by clickin on it directly in the comments view via “edit panel / view comments” or - you can change the status by check the comment checkboxes, the “open dropdown” and submit the form in the comments list. - check, that you have closed comments in your weblogs
how to access the comments view: - via “edit panel / view comments” - click on the module link in “cp home / modules” - on cp home there’s a link “comments awaiting validation” attention: only comments awaiting validation are displayed if no specific weblog is selected
@mark: in my tests IE 7.0, FF 2.0 I receive notifications and the dropdown form to close or open comments works fine.
