New hooks

Hi,

I am looking to extend the communicate tab in the control panel. I had a look through the extension hooks and couldn’t see any for this purpose (please let me know if I’m wrong!). I was wondering if it’s possible to create new hooks as part of an extension? I’ve seen a hack in the wiki that achieves customisation of the communicate tab, but I want to build a future-proof design that only uses standard methods.
