Publish/Edit entry hook

Hi,
I need to modify weblog entry form post data before it is inserted/updated in the database and I’m having a bit of difficulty identifying which hook I need to make use of. Any ideas?

I think I have found the right hooks for new submissions:
submit_new_entry_start & submit_new_entry_end
but I’m still a bit stumped with updating/editing an existing entry.
