Hey all,
I just released Playa 1.3.
This release adds new settings to the Custom Field form which allow you to limit and sort which entries get displayed in your Playa fields.
Enjoy!
Just caught little bug that prevented new Maximum Selections values from being saved.
Fixed it as a 1.3.1 release: http://brandon-kelly.com/apps/playa/
My apologies if you were effected by this.
Brandon:
I have a client who will have hundreds of entries in a weblog I wish to relate with playa. One or more documents can related to one article. They won’t be relating 50 documents to one article, just a few. However, any problems with displaying or saving hundreds of entries in the playa multi-select fields?
Thx, Ben

You shouldn’t have any trouble. I know some sites relate literally thousands of entries using Playa, without issue.

A quick question on this if I may. I know that relating loads of entries isn’t going to be too much of a problem as each one would just be a new record if you like but what say you had 1,000 entries (or possibly loads more than that) in one weblog and then you have another weblog which relates to that one.
Would there be any problem in the publish / edit page when you have that many entries showing up in a Playa field?
Best wishes,
Mark
I just set up a page for Playa on Get Satisfaction.
Going forward, please use that venue for support rather than the EE forums.
Thanks!
Do I have to sign up to post something Brandon. It’s just I have tons and tons of log-ins nowadays and I just find that keeping things in the forums (for me at least) makes things that little bit easier on my age-ing mind 😉
Don’t suppose you could possibly just very quickly answer the question I had just above could you? 😉
Best wishes,
Mark

That’s why they make 1Password.
Your previous post is a perfect example of why I’m doing this – too many questions slip through the cracks on these threads!
But the answer is: yes, it will work.

Ah I know about that one but never really liked it for some reason. Prefer my own systems.

Point taken. Although it wasn’t my fault 😉

How well though? Sorry to ask here again and I promise to sign up for that other site as soon as possible but just wondering if I had say 2500 entries in a Playa field then isn’t this going to slow down the control panel a little?
Best wishes,
Mark

Yes, your CP will become exactly .7324024 times slower.
Grabbing 2500 rows from a database is a big deal, no matter what you’re doing with them. Then there’s the added page weight to consider. And it might be tough on the browser, too. Worst of all, it’s going to be hard to find the right entry once you have them all in front of you.
But that’s all hypothetical… I’ve never done it.
