Hello, Is it possible to moderate entries made via freeform?

I had to use Freeform because we needed file upload capability. Unfortuantely we also need to moderate the contributions.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

T

Hiya,

When you say moderate the entries, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean you want some sort of validation on the form maybe? If so then take a look at Live Validation.

If not then I’m afraid we are going to need a little more information than that to help out 😉

Hope that helps though.

Best wishes,

Mark

Hi Mark, By ‘moderate’ I mean that the information and ‘comment’ is collected but not made live until an admin allows it. Very much the same as EEs own comments moderation.

Thanks

The freeform entries are not made “live” afaik? They are stored in the CP and only an user with the appropriate access rights can view them?

What exactly is this for? Is it for something much like a testimonials page or something? If so then peshehimself is correct in that Freeform doesn’t actually publish the data anywhere apart from the control panel so not too sure how you have it set up at the moment. Perhaps if you can let us know exactly what you are trying to put together / create then we will be able to help a little better on this one. It may well be that what you want to create could be done using a Stand-Alone Entry Form instead but until we know a bit more about exactly what you are trying to create I don’t really know what else to say I’m afraid.

Definitely here and listening though so let us know what you want and I’m sure we can help you out in some way 😉

Best wishes,

Mark

Thanks, We’re creating a kind of guestbook.

Users can submit messages and images via a Freefrom form. We then display these messages on a page using the {freeform:entries…} tag pair.

Unfortunately messages appear immediately and we need a way for admin to approve the messages first.

Hope that helps

As far as I know, FreeForm does not support status of entries, which is why this probably won’t be doable.

Why not use the built-in weblog functionality for this? You could use a stand-alone entry form and post entries with a default “closed” status, upon approval, change the status to “open” or else and display the entries with a normal weblog entries tag?

That would have been my next guess after testimonials. Thought it was going to be one or the other 😉

As I mentioned before and has been mentioned just above I think a Stand-Alone Entry Form will be your definite best bet on this one. You can make all entries hidden (status - closed) as standard and then moderate them as you see fit. You could also just have one weblog entry for this and make use of the comments too. These can also be very easily moderated.

One of those would be your best bet I would think. If you are going to use the Freeform entries tag then I think you can set a status to a form submission using the status=”closed” parameter when creating the form and then you should be able to bring them back using that same status=”open” parameter in the entries tag. You could then set the status of the entries yourself allowing you to do what you want to do.

I personally though would definitely go down either the comments or SAEF route though as these will then both have built-in functionality ready for what you want to do here.

Hope some of that helps a bit.

Best wishes,

Mark

Thanks for the help. I would have preferred SAEF or a standard comment form but we need image upload capability.

Good tip on the status=”closed”.

Many thanks
