Request- 'Post to LJ' plugin/module...

I’ve just started dinking with this- and I fear it may be better as a module. However, what I’m shooting for is something that automatically posts each entry into EE into LJ.

I found a Word Press plugin that does this, and have been playing with the code (based on the license, I think that’s ok). Here’s the link to the Word Press version.

At the moment, I’m just trying to get it to work with EE, and having no success. However, what I’d like to do eventually is make it work for multiple authors. What I envision- having a spot in the member info where all of the lj info can be entered (password and username) and then a module that automatically grabs that data (if it exists) and then upon publication of a new article, automatically submits each entry a given user makes to the user’s LJ.

Eh- low priority for me, but something I definitely want for the future. If anyone smart took a look at it, I’d be a happy camper! The existing Word Press version makes for a good place to start hacking. And if I’ve read the WP version’s license wrong, just let me know. I don’t think I have.

LJ = LiveJournal

Yeah, I think this would definitely have to be a Module, rob. I don’t see how a regular Plugin could interact with the backend like it would need to. Of course, I don’t know much about Module architecture, either, so… [grin]

Yep- I feared this would need to be a module. Oddly, I think I could do it with just a plugin, because I’m going to be using a customized form fed to the CP via a template. That’s already in place and finally working like I want it to. So I could probably just create a plugin to call the class and stick that into the template.

The bad thing- this wouldn’t work for most folks, as they use the CP for posting. But I can’t make head nor tail of the module structure, so I may just have to go for that.

yeah this would definitely work best as a module. You could do it as a plugin, I think, but as a module it would work a lot better i think. keep us in the loop if you get any breakthroughs rob. : )

I’m interested in the customized form fed to the CP via a template though. Can you tell us more about this? My head is a bit slow today so I might not be understanding that right. : )

Just out of curiosity, why do so many people want to be able to cross-post to Live Jorunal anyway? I’m not sure I see the advantage to maintaining essentially the same blog on two different packages in two different locations. Do you guys get free crack for every 10 posts you make on LJ or something? 😊

Les, th e reason for this is that a lot of LJ’ers stick only to LJ - by cross posting we allow those people to see the posts on their friends pages and to comment more easily. Since it’s a community that makes it very valuable. I personally have my main site syndicated to LJ but would probably cross-post my friends only posts to the protected area if this module exist. I do that manually at this point. The people that see those on my LJ are not registered on my site and vice versa. =)

It’s because the fact that people want more exposure and that LJ is a community with some interactivity that you don’t get with a personal site. Most people want to keep their personal site/s because of LJ limited features, lack of customization and because you don’t get all the bells and whistles that come with having access to your own server… But I do it for the free crack 😊

Coolness. I was just curious. There’s certainly enough people doing this that I figured there must be some reason for it, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the hell it might be.

Now I know.

This would be a good module. I haven’t updated my LJ in a long time because I have EE now. A lot of my friends still use LJ though so they would be more likely to read my posts iff they were on LJ.

Wow- this is an old post someone dug up! For anyone who subscribed to the thread- I’ve got a template set that allows easy x-posting to LJ. You can download it from the demo page found here.

I guess discussions/questions/problems should be directed to this thread, since I started it.

rob1, you ROCK, thank you! That works perfectly!! Since I’m the only person using this I went and hardcoded the form with all of my usericons etc. And I added in the entry date as well. I’m figuring out how to be able to edit previous posts now.
