Just curious,

Is anyone familiar with an advertising or banner management module? I’m working on a site for a local non-profit where this would be extremely useful. Clearly, its possible to cobble together something out of the box, but it would be great if there was something more targeted to manage:

  • different sized ads
  • landing pages
  • stats
  • self-service for advertisers (at least to view stats)

http://www.openx.org/ is a popular opensource and free ad script. It may be a bit too complex though, but take a look.

Cool! - its more than I need for what I’m looking at right now. I’ll have to drill a little deeper to see if using it would be better than building a fairly simple module.

We originally thought about modules and bridges and all sortsa stuff. We eventually settled on justing a blog entry format which was really easy to set up.

You can use view tracking: http://expressionengine.com/docs/modules/weblog/entry_tracking.html

For tracking up to four different placements of each ad. You can then create a template to display the hit counts. There are a few methods you could use for restricting access to each individual stat. If you’re curious, I could outline them.

Apparently something is in the works at Smooth Function for an AdManager. The site says coming soon and it seems like they are going to come out with a rush of add-ons, I hope:)

I have been using a perl script - webadverts - for 10 years with great success. Although it is no longer sold or officially supported, it works fine……and is simple to set up.

I serve many millions of banners per year with it, and know of many other sites which do the same.

I would second the Google AdManager recommendation. Previously used OpenAds/OpenX but switched to AdManager when it became available.

Very, very happy with it.
