I’ve run across the need to generate a newsletter from site content more than once. A lot of organizations use Constant Contact to manage sending news to their members, but this seems like such busy-work; all the text images etc. are already in EE. The mailing list function is “almost there”, but (unless I’ve got it wrong) lacks the ability to harness the EE’s powerful templates.
Has someone solved this problem - if so, would you spare a few words of advice - or better yet, some code.
If this doesn’t exist, I’ll be building it myself, but I’d be super happy to collaborate with anyone who’s willing and able.
Cheers! The ever hopeful
There’s this but it’s not perfect. It is quite usable though. I know a few clients who would find it quite handy if fleshed out a bit.
Gosh … would really love to see some progress on this …
It is very frustrating to have all the content in the db, images and all, but yet my “newsletters” are still built by hand.
The Multiple newsletter ext looks(ed) promising but the problem with internal linking - the whole purpose of my newsletter - killed it …
Has anybody heard anything about such functionality in EE2.0?
Here’s one solution…
Use a 3rd party newsletter script such as DaDaMailor 12all that allow you to send an email message using the content of an existing web page. Both DaDaMail and 12all can also use your EE subscriber list if needs be, and give you things like batch sending.
Then publish your newsletter as you would with any other EE entry.
The advantage of this method is that you automatically create an online archive of your messages with no extra effort. This obviously has search engine benefits as well, and it keeps all your content in one place.
