Odd enquiry form submissions

Apologies if this isn’t posted in the correct forum:

I’m using Solspace’s Freeform module on many websites. Clients often complain that they receive a lot of form submissions that are just full of junk, e.g. the following pasted directly from email.

Name: PHVmgpRgtXDL Email address: UhEYDrHAC Company/Organisation: moRPbfSrVzeNOgBF Telephone: wepacPSbeclsxekT Enquiry: 4zx0Wq tziiqboxmbcs, dedzikvdyxxe, [link=http://gkwcvtvnmuvv.com/]gkwcvtvnmuvv[/link], http://djwquchzsgao.com/

Note the enquiry field contains links to junk URLs in HTML format, as well as [url] and [link] too.

Is someone purposefully filling in the enquiry forms with junk by actually typing it in? Or is there another reason? I’ve always told clients to just ignore it, but it’s becoming something that’s hard to ignore!

Any thoughts or advice really appreciated. Thanks.

Just checking through past form submissions - 6 in January alone, generally around 6-10 a month. They all follow exactly the same pattern, especially the bizarre links in the enquiry field in 4 different formats.

It does look like people are typing in just junk; I’d recommend talking to Solspace via their forums to see if there is a solution. It’s really hard to battle manual spam though. =)

Thanks Lisa - it’s just odd that spammers would post completely nonsensical links to websites that don’t exist? It’s possible I don’t understand enquiry form spamming too well 😊

Cheers for the tip.

I don’t have an answer, perhaps testing for exploits? In any case, since this is a third-party issue I’m going to move it down to the Modules forum for you =)

Yes of course, sorry. Thanks for your help. I’ve asked the question over at Solspace.
