Hi,
Just wanted to confirm…
TRUE/FALSE: There is no IPTC image plugin for EE?
For example, I would like to do this (pseudo code):
{blah:iptc image="{my_custom_image_field}" param="foo" param="foo"}
{blah_caption}
{blah_other}
{/blah:iptc}
If FALSE, do ya’ll think there would be a need for such a plugin?
Thanks, Micky
There is not one. I would LOVE one. IPTC+EXIF would really be even better for me, but i’d settle for what i could get!
(There was, a while back, a partial EXIF plugin someone wrote for EE, but it never worked all that well and i’m pretty sure it’s no longer supported.)
Hi Adrienne!
Thanks for the reply.
I think it is about time someone wrote one… If I have some spare time, I will dig into this.
I think the exif plug you mention can be found here:
http://expressionengine.com/downloads/details/exif/
I just tried to get that working, but the server I am on does not support php exif functions. :(
IPTC, on the other hand, (FWIK) is supported on my server… I think IPTC reading method(s) is/are standard with PHP4/5+:
http://us2.php.net/iptcparse
Anyway, looks like there is a need for this… I know that my bloggers would probably prefer to not have to extract the caption info manually for every photo. 😊
If I make any progress I will post back here! Thanks for you reply, I really appreciate it!!!
Cheers, Micky
From your link, they’re no more standard with PHP than EXIF is, because iptcparse / iptcembed are part of the GD library. But it is true that most hosts compile in support for GD. 😊
Ah, I did not realize that! 😊
Thanks for the clarification.
I am not the best coder in the world, but I love a good challenge… Seems like the EXIF plugin woult be a good starting point for an IPTC/EXIF plugin.
Thanks Adrienne!
Have a great day, Cheers, Micky
Sounds like it to me too – perhaps check with Lodewijk to see if he minds you taking it over. He probably wouldn’t.
And one of the local development servers – XAMPP (for PC) or MAMP (for Mac) or whatever – would be able to get the EXIF additions compiled in easily if it didn’t already have them. So that might be how you wanted to handle development!

Good idea! I will do that. 😊

Another excellent idea! Thanks a billion Adrienne!!! 😊
I will post back here when I make some progress on this venture. :D
Have a wonderful day.
