I just dont get how forums mod works

I have two forums with cats:
FORUM1 - FORUMCAT1 FORUM2 - FORUMCAT2
I have a user group called “NORMAL”. Under forum permissions, i want to allow them to have full permissions so have checked all check boxes for “NORMAL” group for each forum.
I now create a “NORMAL” user, in the actual forum, all i can see is “FORUMCAT2” which isnt a link, and there are no links to post, browse the category or anything. As soon as i drop into the forum, i cant do anything, post, browse etc. There are no links.
I know i am logged in as i can see a log out link, as well as control panel, search and member list.
Now.. when i log out, i can see everything. All forums, browse etc, cats but (obviously) not be able to post.
What on earth am i doing wrong?

It seems that default permissions dont apply to already created forums and cats. I just created a new forum and i can now see post links etc.
Is there a way to allow posting the previously created forums? I have edited the permissions per forum without luck. (which i would have thought would be how to do it)
It turns out that the header text in the permissions column is also a link that defines forum permissions. That REALLY aught to look more like a link.
