@dvancouver and @eyevariety - Thanks for the info. I hope it goes well too. I’ll let you know if it doesn’t.

One thing to watch out for Josh is that MH doesnt have to interact with the files and nGen does. I had to increase PHP memory bc my users had uploaded some really big pictures and nGen needed a lot of mem to resize them.

So, just so I’m completely certain I don’t screw anything up…I’m going to install FieldFrame and the nGen file field extensions, and then just simply replace the custom MH File field with a nGen file field…and that’ll work as long as the field contains only a single file? Is it that easy?

Thanks!

Josh

Yep- but replace is not the right word- you will switch the field type. If it doesn’t work you can switch it back and your data will be preserved.

The possibility exists that installations is going fine but that nGen is giving you an error when you try to save your current or new entry.

that will be the category error… Posted it on several forums… but never got a response of fix.

So, I just tried to set up nGen field type over a MH File single file instance, and when I change it and then try to go in to the edit page for that particular weblog, but it just plain doesn’t load anything. No errors. Nothing. Any ideas what might be going on?

Doesn’t load an edit screen or doesn’t show a thumbnail?

Is your image folder 777d?
Did you make sure that nGen is using the same upload folder?

Doesn’t load an edit screen. My permissions are all fine, and the upload folder is the same as the previous File field type. I’m stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks for sticking with me on this one. 😊

Do you have other field frame fields that work? I am just guessing at this point but its got to be a path issue with field frame or ngen.

So I’ve tried FF Matrix and SL Google Map and they both seem to work fine. It appears to be isolated to nGen File field. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this one?

best,

josh

I’m sure the guys from nGen will chime in here- you are saying you can’t get it to work on its own either- on a new field? They use exif to check on the file, so it could be something with that/your host.

Not sure but I have had issues with the /thumbs directory, basic dir ngen file creates and gives 777 permission too, the only thing is I had to delete and recreate my thumbs dir with an FTP and 777 it.

This may be hogwash but it’s worth a look.

Need to see those PHP warnings and errors. Do you have an .htaccess file in the system (or whatever it’s called) folder. If so put this in there for the moment and try and go in and edit to see if errors are coming up.

RewriteEngine on
php_flag display_errors 1
php_value error_reporting 8191

I actually don’t see a /thumbs folder in the nGen folder. Could that be the problem?

In regards to the PHP error reporting, here’s what I get:

Fatal error: Class ‘DirectoryIterator’ not found in /n/vorlon/disk/osgiliath/www/oiaweb/public_html/oiaadmin/extensions/fieldtypes/ngen_file_field/ft.ngen_file_field.php on line 666

Not sure yet about that error you’re getting, I have to think on it. The thumbs directory gets created in the file upload location directory you choose when creating the field. Does not sound related to the issue at hand.
