I have the v4 plugin, jw player and swfobject 2.1 all installed.

My video plays fine on PCs but isn’t playing in any browsers on the mac. What could be going wrong? The file is a mp4. When I click to play it just shows the loading graphic and never actually plays anything. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry for delay in replying. Waiting to get to a mac so I can test it for you.

Couldn’t get it to play here on a Mac just crashed the browser out. You might need to encode it with a different codec as not all are supported I think.

Best wishes,

Mark

poThree,

I can confirm the movie does not load and it crashes the browser on a Mac.

Mark might be on the money with the codec. What codec did you use? There is an flv with the JW player download as an example. Upload that and try it as a test to see if it works.

I tested the flv and it works fine.

The strange thing is that my mp4 (encoded with handbrake) worked just fine before. I’m not sure what caused it to stop working. Well I take that back, I think I did update the flvplayer plugin.

What’s the best plan of attack here? If I re-encode the video, what encoder do you recommend? Is mp4 a good choice or should I be encoding as flv or something else?

Thanks!

well, I’m not real sure what the problem was, but I ended up re-encoding the video with handbrake and now it works fine. I used the most recent version of handbrake and use mp4 with h.264 encoding at 300kbps. Seems to be working just fine. Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it sorted. Video encoding can be a little pernickety like that at times so sometimes just best to try again as you did do.

Glad it’s all working for you now though.

Best wishes,

Mark
