I’m looking to either develop or hire a developer to help create a FieldFrame plug in that will provide a chained select function to FieldFrame fields.

I’m attempting to create a multiple choice question and answer site, and each member will be creating a new entry answering the questions and leaving a comment.

So: - I have a weblog for Questions - I have a weblog for Answers, with each one related to a Question entry - I have a weblog for Responses, with a Choice field, and a Comment Field - The Choice field should have two dropdowns, one that chooses a related Question, then the 2nd dropdown updates with the Answers related to that Question

Is this possible? Is this something a developer would like to help me out with, or create for a fee?

Thanks!

Peter Baker

Essentially something that makes this possible as a field in the control panel (not just read-only): http://5pieces.com/blog/chained-selects-for-expressionengine/

Seems like this is overly complicated for a basic Q&A thing… Is there any reason you want to give Questions and Answers their own weblogs?

Why not just create one weblog, “Survey”, and make each question a custom field within it (question being the field label, and answers being the actual field)?

Maybe, but because their are going to be so many questions that have to be managed by editors, not technically proficient admins, I’m not sure they’ll go for having to edit the weblog fields every time they add a new question (which will happen a lot over time). Plus, the questions themselves are a data point that is going to have to be queried in a few different ways for different statistics.

Agreed, overly complicated, but it’s not just basic Q&A.

Hi Peter,

Did you get this developed in the end?

In a round-about kind of way yes. I ended up loading some javascript files with a [removed] tag in the field instructions, where I used the Question dropdowns to query an ajax page with a filtered list of related Answer options (where before they picked a Question, all Answers for all Questions were in the dropdown) and replaced the Answers select options with the returned options.

Pretty handy option actually, it also let me do some queries off page and inject a list of all Responses to the Question, ON the edit page, rather than having to dig around for all the Responses to a given question. Using some jquery/ajax in the control panel made related entries super powerful for us.
