For those unaware, you can build templates in TinyMCE that offer structured HTML that a client can drop into a TinyMCE WYSIWYG window and then edit.

http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/TinyMCE:Plugins/template

I cannot get it to work if I put the template into the [ ] (see “Templates example” in the link above. However, I can get it to work if I do the following:

  1. TinyMCE must be installed and working in your Expressionengine install.
  2. In the Expressionengine backend, go to: Admin > Utilities > Extensions Manager
  3. Next to “LG TinyMCE” click “Settings” to edit the settings.
  4. In the “plugins :” paramater, add “template” to the list
  5. In the “theme_advanced_buttons1 :” parameter, add “template” to the list
  6. Somewhere in the settings, add the line: template_external_list_url : “tinymce_templates/templates.js”,
  7. Save the settings.
  8. In the “System” directory, create a directory named “tinymce_templates”
  9. You are now ready to build your TinyMCE templates.

I have this working with: LG TinyMCE (v.1.3.2) TinyMCE Version 2.1.2

This was a fantastic victory until I tried it with TinyMCE Version Version 3.0rc2 and Version 3.2.5

In these versions the Template icon shows up and opens a window but no templates are listed. The only difference I can see between 2.1.2 and the more recent versions is that 2.1.2 opens an actual browser window for template selection and the more recent versions open a javascript window for template selections.

Does anyone else use TinyMCE templates with EE? Does anyone have them working with up-to-date TinyMCE? Any help is greatly appreciated as it took a long time to get it working in the first place and now I’m back to the start.
