Module settings / config

I am building a module with cp backend. I need to have the users enter a few settings like ‘opening date’ and ‘closing date’ that I will need to be able to output into templates as variables.

Should I set it up so these details are saved in the ‘exp_modules’ table under the ‘settings’ column.

OR

Should I have these items saved into my own table
