Sounds like your FTP app may have corrupted some files. Can you try pushing them to the remote server again?

I’m also having this error. I’ve pushed all the files a couple of times to the server and the error persists.

What version of PHP is running on the server you are trying to install on? Who is the host?

Looks like its running 5.2.17 at the moment. It appears that I can change this based on my servers dashboard. Is 5.3 the required version for EE3.1.4?

Looks like PHP 5.3.10 is the required minimum version for EE3.

5.3 is the minimum, but is not recommended. Consider PHP 7, or 5.6 at least.

updated to PHP 7 and now I get the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '^' in /var/www/vhosts/[mydomain]/httpdocs/system/ee/legacy/core/URI.php on line 361

doing some file inspection on the server, it looks like random characters are being added to many of the PHP files in the /system/ directory. This is incredibly unusual. I will attempt to upload with a different FTP client other than Transmit.
