The editor of the online magazine I am webmaster for has a complaint.
The old behavior of inserting a photo would insert the photo at the cursor. Now since upgrading from 2.10.3 to 3.2.1 it inserts the photo always at the bottom of the field she’s editing.
Is there a way to make it insert at the cursor again?
Also, where did the image re-sizing box go after you upload? It just inserts the <pre><code><img
Mostly they use textarea fields for the articles.
I have a couple cases where we used rich text (rte).
Does changing the field type solve this problem?
Will it create new problems to change existing field types to rich text? That’s what probably worries me the most. We have almost ten years worth of stories in there using textarea. (This the Rural Intelligence client that wants this.)
Thanks for the quick response, Seth.

Hi Terry,
I’ve done some testing and in 3.2.1 with Textareas, we are not using the file picker (this will change with the next release) but I am seeing the image inserting at the cursor. With the RTE I am also seeing the image being added at the cursor as well. Do you know which version of EE your clients are running?
That is odd - we are using 3.2.1. I did not test myself - I took the editor’s word for it that it did not work. I’ll go make some checks.
I assumed she is using the file picker at the bottom left beneath the field, so that statement is a bit confusing saying you are not. How are you uploading images otherwise?
Terry
Seth,
I have tested it out myself, and if you use the HTML button to insert an image, as you saw it does insert at the cursor.
Additionally, if you use the file-picker and select from among previously uploaded images, then it also will insert the photo at the cursor. I am certain you saw this behavior as well.
Where it fails to insert the image at the cursor is if you upload a new item to a photo directory. In that instance only, it inserts the link at the bottom of the field.
So, for some reason, it behaves differently if you upload a new photo. Since we never re-use older photos in stories at this magazine site, we never even noticed it would work from the “existing images” file picker.

Hi Terry,
I have filed a bug report for this. If you subscribe to it you’ll be notified as soon as we have a solution in place.
