Delete MSM primary site ID 1

I would like to delete the first site (site_id = 1) on Multiple Site Manager. I no longer use the site and MSM doesn’t provide the delete link for the first site. When I go into the DB and change the site_id to 2, the delete link appears in MSM. Of course all of the DB records are associated to site_id = 1. Is it possible to delete the primary site in MSM? Is all that it is doing when I delete a site is remove the records in the DB or is it also removing custom fields, etc?
