Hi, I’ve used EE for a variety of sites but now I want to use it for a fully password protected - members only site. I’ve looked through the docs and while they are helpful & I can get started with them, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a couple good articles or tutorials regarding best practices on the subject.

Thanks. Russ

You can restrict your templates by member group. That’s really all you should need: create a landing and sign-up page that’s open to all, the rest members only.

Hi Russ,

If you click the settings cog next to a template you want to protect, you’ll get a modal with an access tab, where you can set access to the specific template.

OK… thanks for the info… I wasn’t sure if that was all there was to it or if there are other things a person should consider. You frequently see things where the features do a good job but if you want enhanced security you should also do XY&Z.

Thanks. Russ

I have a follow up question about this… in general (not looking for specifics per se) if on my user registration form I wanted to collect a bit of info that should be encrypted, is a third party plugin a better option? or is there functionality within EE that I can repurpose?

Thanks. Russ

Hey Russ K.,

Did you get the help you needed? Were you asking about encryption for transport (i.e. https) or for storage in the db (or both)? If the latter, I would assume (hope) the former then. 😊

Actually, no I didn’t & I totally forgot I asked as it wasn’t an immediate need … but the question is still one that I’m curious about & will need sometime… it would be encryption for both transport & storage I guess although I was asking about storage specificaly…

Thanks for the follow up.

SSL/HTTPS for transport. Might as well just secure the entire site, not just the form or login pages etc. As for encryption, the Securit:ee addon had an encryption field… but I don’t know if that will be updated for EE3: https://devot-ee.com/add-ons/securitee

Unfortunately, I’m on EE3 so Securit:ee currently isn’t an option & I couldn’t find out if it will be updated for 3 Thanks for the reply tho… I appreciate it.
