So, I have a side project I’ve been working on, haven’t worked on it for a month or so, came back to it today to find the site down and installation seemingly broken!?!

Running EE 3.3.0

The sites homepage is completely blank (white page, no source).

The system index throws the error; Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘:’ in /homepages/ …[truncated]… /system/index.php on line 85

How has this only happened now? How do I fix/debug it?

Have tried re-uploading the system files from a freshly opened zip. No joy.

At a complete loss.

:(

Can you rule out any changes on the host, like an upgrade or any changes to the system? EE wouldn’t break on it’s own, so to speak, so something must have changed somewhere.

Ok so after going into my hosting panel seems PHP wasn’t turned on at all for that specific domain… which is really weird, as it had been working fine before. Ah well case closed. :/
