Hey Guys,

I am running ExpressionEngine 2.11.3.

This message has been haunting my website for awhile now. It happens sporadically throughout the day and really picks up once we see a spike in overall website traffic.

The error reads the following every-time:

An Error Was Encountered Site Error: Unable to Load Site Preferences; No Preferences Found

I have talked to my dedicated server team as well as developers and they seem to think the error is coming from the Expression Engine Database?

Regardless, It’s really cutting in to our website performance and 100s of users are seeing the error multiple times a day.

Any help of what needs to be done would be great?

Thanks,

  • Marc

There are two possible causes for this error. One is database connection issues. Two, in my case, the host company upgraded PHP on the server and my EE installation became incompatible with the new version of PHP. I could role back to a legacy version of PHP for my host account, and that solved the problem.

Sure does sound like the database becoming unresponsive–the question is what’s causing it. Could it be just that your traffic volume is too high for it to handle?

If that’s not it there could be something in one of your templates that’s causing it to hang or just run a really expensive query. Might be worth running the debugger to see if there are any queries taking a long time or using a lot of memory.

I had a similar problem once–it turned out to be from search crawlers hitting a defunct URL that was causing MySQL to flip out and go unresponsive for several minutes.

I’m getting the same error but, I’m trying to create a localhost using Mamp. Not, sure how to fix it…
