Email digest

Can you direct me to the best, easiest way to create an email digest – a message sent automatically each month that uses templates and custom fields to send an email based on the specific users activity? I’ve seen on the forums that Postmaster was most recommended for this, but it is discontinued and not available. I’m using EE 2.9 and will probably be moving to 3.x in a couple of years.
