Linking to files from the Rich Text Editor

I have a site that uses rich text editor fields for some of the channels. I want my client to be able to upload files through EE and be able to link them in the rte. This is currently impossible? No file chooser is available for highlighting text and linking it to a file upload. You go into the file manager and cannot get any links to the direct file itself. What is the solution here? I don’t want to have them learn how to use an FTP client. They should just be able to do this easily within EE…
